2009 Summer Reading Blog Book

Are you looking for a great new book to read this summer?
Want to try something new?

Announcing a Cross-CountryTeen Summer Reading Project
Blogbook 2009
“Loulane Lambert’s Lists for Life”
by Barbara Larmon Failing

On June 1, 2009, Barbara Larmon Failing will publish her never-before published teen novel, Loulane Lambert's Lists for Life on its own blog. The book is written as a journal, so each day (for about 2 months), she'll post a new entry until the entire novel is on the blog. Teens can interact with the book via their comments.

Barbara Larmon Failing is the author of LASSO LOU AND COWBOY McCOY (Dial Books for Young Readers, 2003) about which the New York Times Book Review said, “I love this book for its humor, its drawings and its suggestion, at the end, that there is more to cowboys than clothes.”

Review: Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link

What is it?
Nine short stories that range from the fantastical to the macabre.

Digging up a dead girlfriend. Wizards that live in tall towers and enslave children. The World-Tree Library. A dog-skin purse with an entire faery world inside of it. The Specialist's Hat made with human teeth. Aliens and surfers. Monsters, murder, and magical fruit. Werewolves and ghosts that drink blood.

Kelly Link has created nine short stories that are magical, macabre, strange, scary, weird, and grotesque. She weaves all of these themes into her tales about friendship, love, family, the desire to be something (or something more), along with the awkwardness that sometimes accompanies adolescence. Her stories will leave you wanting more.

Awards:YALSA Best Books for Young Adults 2009Booklist Editors' Choice--Books for Youth: Older Readers Category 2008

This book has also received praise from such notable publications as Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Library School Journal and Booklist.

After Game Night on Monday May 18th...

HANG AROUND AFTER GAME NIGHT ON MONDAY MAY 18th TO HELP US FILM A VIDEO!

We are looking for actors…We here at the Cape May County Library are working on a video project for the New Jersey State Library and the New Jersey Library Association. Our task is to make a three minute promotional video. We've decided to promote video games in libraries. We are looking for anyone interested in taking on the role of people playing games; the same thing that people who come to our Game Night do so well just about every week.

If anyone is interested we will have some forms for you to have your parents or guardians to sign at the next Game Night as well as at the main desk. Parents are welcome to take part in the video too.We will be giving more information on when we will be filming after we get an idea of how many of you will be helping out.

If your parents have any questions or concerns regarding the project, they can contact the Technology Librarian, Lisa Marie, at 609.463.6380.

IF YOU WANT TO BE IN THE VIDEO, HAVE YOUR PARENTS SIGN THIS FORM!

Cool Website for the Week of May 3-9

Interested in HTML? Need help building your own website?
Funky Chickens is a really cool site that I use for my HTML needs (I use it a lot for this blog!)
From the website:
Funky Chickens was created in December 1999, to help teach HTML (HyperText Markup Language). HTML is made up of special codes that add the effects that make your website colorful, cool, and professional looking. We have divided the codes into sections to make it easier to find them. There is an index & glossary for you to locate and understand the various codes. If you have a specific problem, try checking out the "Questions" section.
